Thks you mister squashed !!!
I know some of the songs you mentionned like Jolie Holland, anthony and johnsons and the innocence mission….if you look well on the audioblog, you will see i have spoken of these artists….
Comment by delphine — December 2, 2005 @ 10:38 am
yeah, that is redundant isn’t it? I should have scanned site archive first. I suppose google can keep the link so the artist can have bigger search footprint. Jolie Holland particularly deserves more recognition. She writes an interesting blend of Jazzy southern blues. So paste goes the link. I was at first hesitate to post link since the ‘About’ page of this site doesn’t come about intelligable in Babelfish. But I figured admin will alter the post if needed.
btw, cool site. Probably this is the first songwriter specific site I enjoy. I rarely visit songwriter genre, since I listen mostly to late bebop and indies. And I suppose I will keep blathering in english since I don’t know any french beside babelfish and it seems everybody here knows english.
Well this is the internet, nobody guarantees information and interpretation stay dialectically coherent. Barrier be damned.
Yay the future.

I found it. I was wondering why I like delphine’s voice. Her average phrasing tempo and voice dynamic are similar to late bebop.
Check out this list, the beat matches like a clock. I bet if somebody layers delphines voice on top of Mingus or herbalizer’s it will fit without too much tweaking.

I like “étoile” and “le leide”. “le copile” and “le kaplexe” have very sharp reverb layer. It comes out painfull in my headphone. The reverb also drawn the rest of the song. I don’t know what that mean, but that’s how it comes out.
A little list with “étoile” and “le leide”. (I am putting it in my portable player. The list is a little quiet.)

Heya delphine, I like “étoile”. I was wondering how it will sound if it’s played slightly slower, softer and sparser background piano. It will have bigger effect. Should tilt your head up a little when delivering the poem, it will be crisper.
(just my opinion. I am not a musician, so probably very wrong.

but that piece grow on me.

I don’t have the beat to be a DJ. It’s pretty tough to do high energy dance continously and make it interesting.
radio? no. :p yer making fun of me. But seriously, there are already several nice radio program on the net. I like wmfu ‘this modern world’ a lot, it does it consistently and with interesting twist. http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/LM They play a mix of post rock, ambient, and songwriters. Truely eclectic.
KCRW, the most important music radio station in planet if you ask me. They always play music gems way ahead before everybody else. http://www.kcrw.com/music/
http://www.somafm.com/ plays indies rock and electronica. continuous stream. But they don’t do songwriters.
I think your small program is the first songwriting podcast I listen too. Plus the fact I don’t understand what you are saying just add the aura of mystery to the show.

thanks. You should listen to the ugly one. It will make your ear bleeds for week. lol.
I think I like piecing together playlist. It’s somewhere between solving puzzle and making a jewelry, trying to understand songs and then build list tied with some theme. The songs are like gems waiting to be put together.
But most list are too strange and ephemeral for permanent use. It’s more an exploration than functional set of music. Something fun to do for a short period of time before the internet eats it up.
I show you what I mean. I’ll build my typical list for ya. (I like this type of list lately, conveying the idea of peace or searching for peace.)

no. Why? They are only mildly interesting, something fun to do but nothing spectacular. I was thinking to make a webjay.org account of blog, but never get around to do it.
Hey, speaking of playlist. It’s december. will ’song to sirens’ make an end of year playlist? I bet there are enough link in archive to make an interesting year end song-list post.

On related item. Traditional radio is in shaky ground. They are not as attractive as new radios (sattelites or internets) Surprise, surprise… you should hear the commerical radio down here. It’s total garbage.

We Suck, But We’re Free! More Scare Tactics From the NAB
With Howard Stern moving to Sirius Satellite Radio in less than a month, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is stepping up its scare tactics to keep people away from alternatives to broadcast radio. Here is another spot the NAB recently released to commercial stations all over the country (MP3), including the NAB introduction. It doesn’t mention Sirius or XM by name, but you know who they’re talking about. (Here’s a previous post about the NAB’s last scare-spot.)
In this spot, the NAB paints an absolute nightmare scenario for its core constituency of male radio listeners: during a baseball broadcast, it’s two out, bottom of the ninth inning with the bases loaded, when a hit is headed out of the park - it’s going, going, when suddenly the broadcast is interrupted by an a long distance operator requesting 25 cents for the remainder of the broadcast. The horror! What more proof do you need that the good Lord ordained that radio should be free?
The spot is remniscent of the famous Heidi incident in 1968, when NBC cut off a New York Jets game during the critical game-deciding moment so they could cut start the TV version of the movie Heidi on time. The ensuing outcry changed the nature of sports television in the US forever.
Clearly, the NAB sees Sirius as a huge threat. My colleagues in non-commercial radio see podcasting as a bigger threat than Sirius or XM. People who work in radio are running scared, which makes sense, if you see new technologies as a threat instead of the opportunities they could be.
http://slashdot.org/articles/05/12/06/1754204.shtml?tid=126&tid=215
Reuters article discussing the danger to traditional radio posed by new new technologies. From the article: “The radio industry could find itself at the kids’ table in the media banquet hall, as new technology threatens the business, advertising executives said this week at the Reuters Media and Advertising Summit. Satellite radio, digital music players and the Internet are slowly encroaching on traditional radio’s stronghold on local entertainment and advertising. Plus, radio ads themselves are less memorable and creative, these executives said.”

Note: I forgot: Howard Stern is a radio personality (talk radio show here in US. His show is a little bit like joke boys tell to each other in 10th grade locker room. Completely idiotic, but people apparently like it. (Women, sex, raunchy joke,…the usual) He was rated number 1 in NYC. He moved to sattelite radio, after one too many clash with regulation. And he has gotten political too, the rightwing start to attack him. (He was rightwing, until was fed up with the christian wackos)
… uhm, just some useless background information.
